Riverdale Montessori School (RMS) was founded in 1984 by Mr. Benjamin Fox. It started as a small school with just one classroom and expanded to three classrooms. Mrs. Jasmine Stivala, a teacher at RMS, acquired the school in 1997 with a new vision for its future. In 2011, RMS relocated to its new facility at Mosholu Avenue and Fieldston Road, across the street from its original location. It features three spacious, child-centered classrooms, utilized by children ages two to five. Today, RMS is a pillar in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, having been part of this dynamic community for over 30 years.

Kingsbridge Montessori School was founded in 2000 as an extension of RMS. It it now located at 2519 Creston Ave, Bronx, NY, 10468.  KMS is a large, newly opened space that was designed to best meet the needs of the children in the community.  The school houses 3K and Pre-K classrooms.

All classrooms are designed with children in mind and reflect our guiding principle—a play based learning environment where children can learn and grow at their individual pace. Both schools are licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and registered with the New York State Board of Regents.

Our children range in age from 2 to 5 years old. Many of our children start the educational process with us at age two and remain with us until they enter Kindergarten. They advance through our three programs and remain with the same friends throughout their time with us. This allows them to form meaningful relationships with their peers and teachers, and become comfortable in their school setting, leading to a better learning environment.

Children are taught to work cooperatively within a group and to develop the self-discipline required to perform a task. The stimulating environment and the children’s and teachers’ enthusiasm encourage the development of individual talents and interests – children attain confidence through individual achievement.

Our curriculum is delivered through a Montessori play-based learning, child-oriented, enriching environment where children learn by doing and exploring. The curriculum is aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and New York Prekindergarten Early Learning Standards, and is geared towards developing necessary skills in language, reading, math, science, cognition, fine and gross motor skills, social/emotional development, and physical development and health. Our goal is to equip each child with all the necessary skills for success in school-age classrooms and beyond.
